Shopee Wraps Up a Record-Breaking 2018 with Over 12 Million Orders on 12.12 Big Christmas Sale

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, wraps up a record-breaking year with its highly successful Shopee 12.12 Big Christmas Sale. On 12 December, Shopee saw over 12 million orders across the region, surpassing all past records including the recent Shopee 11.11 Big Sale.

Supported by more than 450,000 brands and merchants, Shopee recorded 48 million visits as users shopped 60 million deals across all categories. Shopee’s in-app games were also highly popular; Shopee Shake was played 46 million times throughout the campaign, while the newly launched Shopee Quiz saw 11 million participants tuning in from across the region.


In the Philippines, Mobile and Accessories, Health and Personal Care, and Women’s Apparel were the top three most popular categories. Leading brands, including Maybelline, the SM Store, Xiaomi, and Pampers emerged as favourites amongst users.

Shopee’s achievements in Southeast Asia and Taiwan

Since launching in 2015, Shopee has seen tremendous growth across its seven markets, achieving over 195 million downloads across Southeast Asia and Taiwan . In the third quarter of 2018, Shopee saw 158.8 million gross orders and US$2.7 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV), a respective 24.0% and 21.1% increase from last quarter.

2018 has proven to be an exciting year for Shopee Philippines. Key highlights include:

●    Extended reach across the Philippines: Worked closely with top Filipino celebrities including Anne Curtis, Shopee Philippines’ first brand ambassador; and Jose Mari Chan, Shopee’s Christmas ambassador; to reach out to even more users and fans across the country.

Nips Pop Fest 2018 Concludes with Colorful and Exciting Pops of Fun

Jack ‘n Jill Nips continues to encourage Filipinos to bring out their playful and creative side with the fourth run of its celebration of creativity through music, fashion and art, Nips Pop Fest. This year’s contest invited the young and young-at-hearts to showcase their fresh talents in creating their original song cover of the ‘Nips at Heart’ jingle.

From several entries from passionate music-loving individuals and groups, five finalists were chosen to sing during the culminating event held recently at the Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City.

The Nips Pop Fest invited Filipinos to the bright and colorful world of the well-loved candy-coated chocolate at the Trinoma Activity Center last November 25.

Audience were treated to a one-of-a-kind ukelele performance of the Nips at Heart jingle by the winning pair of The Uke.

Siblings Miko and Aiana Juarez of Game 4 share their inspiration on making the upbeat rendition of Nips at Heart jingle that won them the first runner up prize and the People’s Choice award.

Taking home the P100,000 grand prize was the acoustic cover of “Ang Banda ni Juan”. The sibling duo of “Game 4” won P50,000 cash prize as they placed second and bagged the People’s Choice award as they garnered the most number of votes online and during the event; while the unique rendition of “The Uke” bagged the third place and received P30,000 cash prize. The winners were judged based on the following criteria: 35% musical arrangement, 35% voice quality, 20% people’s vote (Facebook and during the event), and 10% overall impact.

Acoustic duo Ang Banda ni Juan takes home the grand prize with their soulful vocals and wonderful harmony in their Nips at Heart song cover.

Jack ‘n Jill Nips treated mall goers to fun-filled activities such as arcade games, giant Nips dispenser, karaoke booth, and 360 photo booth.

Aside from the fun-filled competition and awarding ceremony, Jack ‘n Jill Nips treated its guest with interactive activities. Arcade games, giant Nips dispenser, karaoke booth, and 360 photo booth were spread out in the venue for mall-goers to try and enjoy. There were also various workshops where guests tried their hands at calligraphy, fashion styling, and food design.

Jack ‘n Jill Nips has been adding pops of fun to the lives of Filipinos with its delightful treats and exciting activities. The well-loved candy-coated chocolate brand will continue to inspire the youth to bring out their playful sides in a rewarding way.

Filinvest City’s Green Urban Planning—where Philippine CBD Should be Heading

In the early 1990s, Andrew Gotianun Sr. saw there could be more to a grazing ground for livestock in Alabang.

His company, Filinvest, won the bid over the 244-hectare Alabang stock farm and transformed it into his vision of a complete environment conducive to meeting the demands of global businesses and enriching the lives of those working and residing in the city. With that vision, the Filinvest City masterplan—one that is sustainable, future-ready and responsive to the needs of an ever-changing metropolis—was drawn up.

Today, the 244-hectare Filinvest City embodies the ideals Andrew Gotianun Sr. set years ago.  Filinvest City is very much of the present and even as it looks forward to tomorrow, introducing key enhancements to its masterplan: green system, districting and improvements to “mega-blocks” resulting in a well-balanced live-work-play environment.


Filinvest City is currently registered to the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification—a first for the Philippines—under the Neighborhood Development plan, further proof of its commitment to build a truly progressive and sustainable CBD.

The first phase of the Filinvest City master plan enhancement is defining Filinvest City’s public domain and green spaces which includes the introduction of a green system consisting of more open spaces, parks, greenways and pocket resting areas—active and passive facilities for a more meaningfully built environment.

These include the Spectrum Linear Park, a recently-completed three-section linear park spanning almost a kilometer that dissects the city from north to south. It is a beautifully landscaped green spine along Spectrum Midway with tree-lined paths, lighted seating areas and stimulating outdoor art installations.

Also part of Phase 1 is the development of a creek side park, stretching further down from the Spectrum Linear Park to a creek, which features meandering paths with seating areas, a bridgeway, bike lanes and a viewing deck. When completed, this will be connected to the al fresco retail strip—the River Park at Festival Alabang.

Included in the pipeline of Phase 1 is the Central Park where a botanical garden, bike racks, a dome structure for events and an expansive lawn will be built. This is envisioned to be one of the major public event spaces within Filinvest City where people can either enjoy a picnic on the sprawling lawn or come together to celebrate an outdoor concert.

Filinvest City has also earmarked its megablocks—parcels of land that Filinvest is retaining that will add as the value enhancers in the city. Part of the masterplan is the maximization of Festival Alabang as the City Center with its major phase by phase expansion and the construction of a chapel near the River Park, the construction of a Convention Center which will be connected to the transport hub, and the Filinvest Axis Towers which will define the Filinvest City’s skyline.

Filinvest City’s design divides into districts, all bearing the four pillars of the City but each with its own distinct character: Northgate District which houses Northgate Cyberzone, the IT-BPO (information technology-business processing outsourcing) hub; the Civic Plaza that houses a variety of public services and institutional facilities like fire station and healthcare establishments; Westgate,  the upscale retail and lifestyle center; the Woods, the more green campus-like and relaxed setting; the Palms District, the highest point and site of exclusive developments like Botanika Nature Residences; South Station, the transport hub; the City Center, where the Festival Alabang, the biggest regional mall, is located; and the Spectrum district as the economic core of Filinvest City and is home to prestigious businesses, as well as high net worth families and individuals. These areas are steadily being transformed into self-contained live-work-play districts.

Filinvest City takes a more prudent approach to city enhancements, proceeding at a steady and calculated pace. These developments bolster Filinvest City’s position as a world-class CBD, ultimately ensuring that land values in the area continue to rise and creating a community responsive to the needs of locators and the people living there today and tomorrow. 12/20/2018 (The Lifestyle Portal)

SM wins 15 awards from the 29th Apolinario Mabini Awards, held at the Kalayaan Hall of Club Filipino in San Juan. The awards were conferred by the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRD). The Apolinario Mabini Awards are given to professionals and organizations that have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavor, or have rendered outstanding services to people with disabilities.


SM's awards include: Silver for SM Seaside Cebu, Bronze for: SM City Cabanatuan, SM City Clark, SM City Cauayan, SM City BF Paranaque; SM Stores in Sucat, Cabanatuan, San Jose Del Monte, East Ortigas, Trece Martires and SM Supermarket in SM Seaside Cebu. Special awards were also given to SM City San Lazaro, SM City Rosario and SM Store in Makati.

Hans Sy, chairman of the executive committee of SM Prime Holdings, was also given the Mabini Presidential Recognition Award for his dedication and passion in promoting awareness and inclusion for persons with disabilities in the SM malls.

For the first time, one of the hottest loveteams of today McLisse leads in their very first movie in the leading role. The movie is called "Sakaling Maging Tao"which somewhat similar to the real-life situation of Mccoy De Leon and Elisse Joson.

Yeah, Mccoy and Elisse experienced 'lovers issues' before which almost end up even their reel tandem. 


In the movie, two college freshmen, Pol (Mccoy de Leon) and Laya (Elisse Joson), accidentally meet during their last day of school in Baguio City.

Laya is about to move back to Manila to escape from her failed romance, while Pol is about to spend a carefree night in a music festival.  After witnessing Laya's breakdown because of her recent heartbreak, Pol gets an idea to make her last night in Baguio fun and memorable.

Pol also takes this chance to spend an entire night with the girl he has always admired from afar. To add the excitement and spontaneity, the two play a game of dares-ranging from eating exotic food, to get a random tattoo, to confessing deep, dark secrets.

Little did they know that the dares would eventually force them to confronting their issues and leads them a start of a possible romance.

Home & Living was also among the hottest categories in Shopee Philippines in 2018. Bath and bedroom supplies were especially popular among Filipino users; on average, over 2,000 bath and bedroom-related products were sold every day. In line with the global trend of cutting down on plastic use, around 400 stainless steel straws were sold per day on Shopee Philippines in 2018.

The SM Store, the largest department store chain in the Philippines, was the number one brand in the Home & Living category in 2018. Insulated tumblers, oil diffusers, and hard case luggage bags were the hottest products on The SM Store as the brand saw robust performance over the year, ranking among the best-selling brands during Shopee 12.12 Big Christmas Sale.

In line with the growing popularity of online shopping among men, there was also an increase in demand for electrical appliances and power tools as TCL, Bosch, and Lotus ranked among the top 10 Home & Living brands.



Maybelline crowned the queen of Health & Beauty

Health & Beauty rounds off the top categories on Shopee Philippines in 2018 as Shopee users continued to snap up skincare products and cosmetics.

Maybelline emerged as the top beauty brand on Shopee Philippines after a fruitful Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale, where it sold over 50,000 items on 12 December alone. Maybelline’s success was driven by several hit products launched in 2018, such as the Superstay Matte Liquid Lipstick, Hypercurl Mascara, and the Fit Me Liquid Foundation.
Filipino users were also interested in skincare and personal grooming, with P&G, Nivea, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, and Garnier also named among the top Home & Living brands.

Tanduay Pays Homage to the People on 165th Year

In marking its 165th anniversary this year, Tanduay celebrates its people and its past. It will soon launch a coffee table book that highlights the men and women behind its success. Additionally, it will be converting its old Quiapo distillery into a brand museum where people can learn more about its rich and colorful history.



Putting a Face Behind the Brand

Tanduay is easily one of the most patronized brands in the country. In 2018 alone, it has sold 19.5 million cases of its products in the Philippines. The company has also had a significant presence in five states in the US, Guam, China, and Australia. Plans are already underway to penetrate the markets of European countries.

The company is cognizant of the huge role that its people play in its success and seeks to pay homage to their skill, artistry, and excellence through its coffee table book.

“We honor every Filipino craftsman and artisan behind the making of Tanduay,” said company president Lucio “Bong” K. Tan, Jr.

At the same time, the company is thankful for the Filipinos’ continued patronage its products.

“As we celebrate the 165th anniversary of Tanduay Distillers this year, we give credit to the people who have made us the world's number 1 rum. They are the often unrecognized people who silently enjoy and consistently patronize Tanduay. A Project of Historical Significance

As part of its anniversary celebration, the company has likewise embarked on the conversion of its distillery in Manila into a museum that will showcase its rich and colorful history. It will likewise give its visitors a multi-sensory experience on how its products are made.

The largest surviving rum maker in the country, Tanduay uses Philippine-grown sugarcane to produce molasses that, in turn, are used as raw materials for its world-class rum. It still uses the traditional solera process and formulations that have been passed on for generations.

It has distillation facilities in Lian Batangas (Absolut Distillers, Inc.) and Pulupandan (Asian Alcohol), Negros Occidental, and ageing facilities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.




Continuing a Tradition of Excellence

As it celebrates 165 years of rum-making excellence, the company looks to continuing its success through market expansion and the development of a more premium blend.

Tanduay is the oldest subsidiary of the Lucio Tan Group of companies. Established in 1865, it is also one of the oldest liquor companies in the Philippines.

More than a hundred media attendees watched the the advance screening with the impressive LG OLED TVs at the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Bonifacio Global City. A traditional Korean feast dinner was served after the Nara Team performed a traditional Korean Fan Dance before the actual viewing.
