AXA PH Expects Digital Innovations to Drive Growth

Keeping up with the digital age and adapting to the latest technologies is a major part of the growth strategy of AXA Philippines, one of the leading insurance companies in the country.

This was revealed by Denis Duverne, AXA Group chairman, during his recent visit to the Philippines.  “We do use new technologies in all parts of our businesses,” Duverne says. He adds that the Philippine entity is in fact quite advanced in the use of digital tools, accelerating its strategy to move from being a payer to becoming an encouraging partner.

“We are also constantly forging digital partnerships with new economy companies to help keep us up to date,” Duverne says.

AXA Asia CEO Gordon Watson who was also in town stressed the importance of data in their business. “Insurance is about data, so we use data analysis for better underwriting and to better respond to our customers,” Watson says.

“Our aim is to innovate our business model,” says AXA Philippines president and CEO Rahul Hora, “This is to enable our distributors to be better, by providing them tools, such as calculators for their tablets or laptops, which results in better quality transactions with their prospects.”

AXA is proud to have its e-Financial Needs Analysis platform that helps customers learn about their insurance protection gaps in relation to their financial goals so they can act accordingly. A ‘light’ version through the chat bot “Coach Finn” can also be accessed on the AXA website.

Other innovative solutions that AXA has rolled out in country include MyAmbition, an affordable investment and life insurance plan that was the first in the country to be made available online, powered by their proprietary e-commerce platform AXA Ion. Its travel insurance Smart Traveller is also available for purchase online.

For health plan holders, a medical teleconsultation service is made available to them. It enables customers to schedule and have a virtual medical checkup with a doctor over the phone for simple health concerns.

Auto security policyholders also benefit from the AXA Assist app’s red button emergency feature, which at one tap can respond to the caller’s roadside needs.

With further convenience in mind for its customers, AXA has also developed the e-policy. E-policy is an electronic copy of their customers’ insurance policy that they can print, save on their personal storage, and even e-mail to their beneficiaries.

MyAXA app for desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile gives customers the power to check their account value, remember due dates, pay for their premiums, or contact their adviser right from their device.

Participants are given fresh and exciting workshops with topics running across the different creative industries – from design, craft, film, animation and technology. Sessions are co-created and facilitated by Thames International lecturers and Creative Innovators Programme Fellows, and offered a unique opportunity to learn about the technical, management, and business skills needed by artists and creative entrepreneurs to thrive.

Workshops were developed with the support and guidance of Nesta, the UK’s innovation foundation. Thames continues to support CIP with Post Graduate scholarships for artists and creatives called ICE or Innovation and Creative Enterprise.

Catriona Gray's Open Letter to All Women

 In line with the celebration of the International Women's Day, our very own Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray shared her open letter to all the women in the face of HIV. It reads:



“8 March 2019
To all the women of the universe, Happy International Women’s Day.

Although today, messages of community, reflection and empowerment will fill your feeds and timelines, I want to add a message that, as a woman you may have thought doesn’t really apply to you. But it does. HIV/AIDS knows no gender, sexual preference or lifestyle. It can affect anyone and it does. But, the message I want to share today is not one of fear. In writing this, I want to create a safe space of learning, acceptance and empowerment - for all women on the front of HIV/AIDS.

This subject is one that strikes a personal cord for me as I have lost a friend due to AIDS-related health complications who was only 26 years young. Now writing this, age 25 myself, I can’t imagine having my life, or a life of someone close to me taken by this health condition. It’s heart breaking. To the women reading this, I do not want your life to be taken or defined by HIV/AIDS. To change and uplift the world for women and all people, we need to be around to make change happen. So say that we’re in this together. Let’s protect and love ourselves.

The first step is to get tested. I know it can be daunting. I’ve been there too - so I recorded the whole experience to show that if I could do it - so can you (the video is on my youtube channel). Take my lead as you brave your first HIV test, and the succeeding ones, until it becomes a normal part of your health routine. Whatever the outcome may be, I want to emphasize that HIV is just a status: it doesn’t define you as a woman, more so as a person.



Apart from the fact that you can protect yourself from contracting HIV with the available methods, you should know that HIV is a manageable condition. If you are HIV negative, keep that status by practicing a safe and healthy lifestyle and by continuing with your HIV testing; and if you are diagnosed HIV positive, you can avail of free counselling and HIV treatment given by your government and/or even non-government organizations who are active in this cause, and of course, further take care of yourself. You have to remember that there is life after HIV if you regularly take the appropriate medicines. You can still live a normal, happy and active life.

’ve often been asked what’s the best part of being a woman in 2019, and my answer is that we (women) are beginning to come together in communities and build each other up - because it’s really when we combine our voices together that we begin to break barriers. But it doesn’t just end at looking after ourselves, we need to gain further support from well-off countries to help our generation fight off this epidemic. Let’s do our part. I’m optimistic that if we raise our voices together, we can create change, because every one of us is affected by HIV. Let the power of women create the ripples of positive change in our larger community and transpire all over the universe.

As I end this letter, let me share you the words of one of the most inspiring ladies on this advocacy – Elizabeth Taylor once said, “It is bad enough that people are dying of AIDS, but no one should die of ignorance.” Let’s continue to educate ourselves, our communities and one another, as we move forward to champion this cause.

As we endeavor a new beginning together this Women’s Month, I hope that my fellow Filipinos, Catrionians and supporters from all corners of the universe could help me spread more awareness, not just about HIV, but to all the causes that concern all women. Together, let’s uplift their spirits – for whatever journey they choose to pursue.

Nurturing the gift of Worth Lodriga

When people talk about kids’ art, they often picture basic drawings composed of shapes and curves, with colors outside the lines. But from the beginning, young artist Worth Lodriga's work has been anything but basic.

When he was two years old, Worth’s motor skills were way advanced for his age that his art could be mistaken for a 5-year old’s. His mother noticed this innate gift when she was teaching him to read and write. She took a quick break and left him to play on his own, and when she returned, she saw her son doodling on the whiteboard. “I was amazed because I hadn’t seen a 2-year old boy who could draw a human being in 3D,” she said. That was the moment she thought of enrolling Worth in Promil Four’s i-Shine Talent Camp. 


Worth joined Promil Four’s i-Shine Talent Camp 4, formerly known as Promil Pre-School’s i-Shine Talent Camp, when he was just four years old. There he explored drawing details, painting, and other crafty activities. “I enjoyed the experience a lot because I learned how to widen my imagination and make better art,” he said.

This exposure helped pave the way for his professional career as an artist. After joining the talent camp, Worth participated in and won several international competitions, including the Frogs Are Green International Art Contest 2016 in New Jersey, where he was pitted against 1,441 entries globally; the 2017 Airtime Watertime International Flotation Suit Design Contest in Santa Barbara, California; the 7-Star Artist Award at the Junior Picasso International Art Contest in India; and the 2017 Student Mars Art (SMArt) Contest in Colorado, U.S.A., where his piece “Where No Man Has Gone Before” won first place.

His latest recognition was the 10th Ani ng Dangal Awards for the Visual Arts category in 2018 where he was honored for garnering international awards from the previous year.

Ani ng Dangal was launched in 2009 to give honor and recognition to artists whose works and achievements have placed the Philippines among the best in the world.

Worth is a shining example of how parents play an important role in nurturing their kids' talents and making sure they are exposed to learning experiences that will hone and nurture these gifts. “Intuitively, prices for older generation phones swiftly lose value after the release of a newer model. Our data support the claim. Through our in-depth analysis, we get precise insights on timing. As you know, timing is everything,” said OLX's Head of Goods & Services Rambo Joinani.



The best time to sell

To get the best value out of your pre-loved phone, put it up for sale on OLX 30 days before the release of the latest model. Can’t let go of it that soon? Sell it on the date of the newest model’s release to spare yourself from a P700 price decrease when you vend it a week later.

Inquiries on and views of used smartphones on OLX usually peak 20 days before the release of a new model. The interest starts to slow down 7 days before the latest generation phone’s launch.

The best time to purchase

In general, the best time to buy a previous generation phone is 7 days after the launch date of the newest model. You can save as much as P2,000 by just delaying your purchase.

A Level Up Experience with the Vivo V15 Grand Launch

Innovative mobile phone developer Vivo has finally unveiled the V15 Pro through an event that truly leveled up to expectations by showcasing the cutting-edge features of its flagship smartphone.

Vivo vice president Cyrus Wu and vice president for channel sales Hazel Bascon welcomed the guests, including Vivo’s trade partners, to the grand launch which encouraged everyone to “Level Up with V15 Pro”.

"We must continue to elevate our product and we exhausted all possibilities in smartphone technology to bring the best user experience to consumers," said Bascon in her welcome remarks.

Capture the perfect shot. Aside from the elevating front camera, the V15 Pro also sports the latest AI triple camera setup—48MP main camera, 8MP wide-angle camera, and 5MP depth sensor.

Some of the country’s most sought-after young celebrities, as well as mobile phone and photography enthusiasts, gathered to witness the unveiling at the Grand Ballroom of Shangri-La at The Fort in Bonifacio Global City.

Singer Julie Ann San Jose opened the event with Ciara’s “Level Up” which brought up the energy at the venue while the audience awaited the V15 Pro’s big reveal. Filipino-Canadian singer Darren Espanto, Elisse Joson and Klea Pineda added more star power to the evening.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Vivo V15 Pro whose main feature, the 32MP elevating front camera, was dramatically showcased when a podium elevated from underneath the stage to reveal the flagship smartphone.

After a brief product talk which shared the unique and leveled up features of the V15 Pro, Vivo officials and the young celebrities gathered on stage for a groufie picture using the elevating front camera.

Just before the event started, Vivo already teased some of the guests about the V15 Pro’s exciting features by welcoming them to the elevating front camera photo booth and the ultra-wide angle booth. However, everyone was still surprised with what Vivo revealed next.

As if taking a cue from the thrilling performance of Darren Espanto who closed the event with his version of “Lift Off”, the stage backdrop suddenly split and opened up to reveal a grand demo area of more than 40 Vivo V15 Pro handsets, inviting everyone to discover and experience for themselves the levelled up features of the flagship mid-range smartphone.

The V15 Pro features the much-applauded 32MP Elevating Front Camera intended to take great-looking selfies. Vivo's NEX was the first model to carry this industry pioneering feature that was first showcased at the 2018 Mobile World Congress.

The AI Triple Camera allows users to take professional-grade photographs that are clear, crisp, and natural-looking.

Landscape or group photography is no longer an issue with the 8MP AI Super Wide-Angle Camera and 5MP Depth Camera. AI will determine if people on the side are perfectly captured or not. Sarah Geronimo Finds New Love in the Kitchen

Just when you thought Sarah Geronimo can do it all, she reveals that she has also learned how to cook. Speaking at the launch of Phoenix SUPER LPG, the Popstar Royalty shared that although it took her a while, she really wanted to learn how to whip up culinary hits in the kitchen.

“Ginusto ko po talagang matutong magluto. Parang ang sarap kasi sa pakiramdam na kaya mong ipagluto ‘yung pamilya mo and mga friends mo (I really wanted to learn how to cook. It feels good to be able to cook for your family and friends),” shared Sarah.

Having discovered the joys of cooking, Sarah took culinary classes to further her newfound passion. She started with little experiments--from whipping eggs correctly, to cooking simple dishes. Eventually, Sarah learned to make Filipino favorites such as adobo and sinigang.

“Marunong na rin po akong gumawa ng iba’t ibang sauces (I also know now how to make different sauces),” Sarah quipped in between laughter.

HER SECRET RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

For Sarah, nothing beats preparation and hard work when it comes to pursuing any interest. This has always been her magic formula to succeed in whatever she chooses to do. She also emphasized the importance of having help or assistance available whenever needed. For this, she counts on her mentors who help bring out her best, whether she’s performing on-stage or acting on-screen.

Even when it comes to cooking, Sarah admits to getting some assistance. She admitted, “Syempre kailangan natin ng safe and simple tool to help me, ‘di ba? Especially when I was just starting, medyo kabado po ako magluto (I need a safe and simple tool to help me, right? Especially when I was just starting, I was really nervous).”

The F11 series is equipped with a 48 MP image sensor and F1.79 large aperture together with a 6P lens, the camera can sense more light when shooting in low light conditions, ensuring more details are captured. When capturing a night portrait, the included Tetracell technology analyzes and combines data from four adjacent pixels to achieve the equivalent of a single 1.6μm pixel. Twice the number of photosensitive pixels improves light sensitivity and allows users to capture clearer night portraits.

The F11 series also employs Ultra Night Mode and Dazzle Color Mode technologies. These technologies leverage AI and multi-frame noise reduction to achieve less noise, handheld stabilization, highlight suppression, and enhanced dynamic range. These all combine to enable users to capture levels of brightness and detail that normally exceed the limits of the human eye. When capturing a night portrait, the F11 series automatically distinguishes between a human face and the background, ensuring the human is the focus of the scene.

The F11 series not only captures excellent portraits with its rear camera, but also continues the “Selfie Expert” tradition of the F-series. Selfies taken with the F11 series are as natural and beautiful as ever.


A New Design Experience: From Trend to Art

OPPO advocates an aesthetic of "natural creation" and has captured the beauty of nature in the F11 Pro via breakthroughs in both materials and workmanship. OPPO is also the first smartphone manufacturer to create the first triple-color gradient design, Thunder Black. This unique design blends red and blue into classic black, akin to a meteor streaking across the night sky. OPPO also created a unique double-color gradient design, Aurora Green, which draws inspiration from vibrant blue oceans interwoven with lush green continents.

The F11 Pro comes equipped with a 6.5-inch full HD+ screen, featuring an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a screen-to-body ratio of 90.9%. The F11 series features a much more elaborate design, retaining the experience-optimized crescent design from the previous generation, but also adding a transparent, amber-colored hidden camera module. When the camera rises up, users are treated to a stunning visual experience.

All around Powerhouse with VOOC 3.0 and Hyper Boost Technology

The F11 series also succeeds in upgrading the overall user experience.

First, the F11 series comes equipped with a 4,000mAh battery which is 500 mAh higher than the previous F series smartphone. The brand new VOOC 3.0 flash charging technology is further improved to shorten charging time by 20 minutes. This means the F11 series can be charged within 80 minutes. Now, VOOC has over 90,000,000 users around the world.

The F11 series also reduces power consumption through optimized hardware and software technology. The F11 series contains a low-power MTK P70 CPU and ram-equipped display. Through this, the F11 series achieves a longer battery life via faster charging technology, a larger-capacity battery, and lower power consumption.

With regards to gaming, OPPO has independently developed its own performance acceleration engine called Hyper Boost, optimized for 11 popular mobile games, including PUBG and AOV. By optimizing the system resource mobilization plan, hardware resources can be utilized more effectively, resulting in faster game response, no disconnections, and no dropped frames. Ballet Manila: A Fun Mishmash of Modern and Classical Ballet

Ballet Manila recently closed its 23rd performance season with double header Deux—a fun mix of modern classical ballet set to the tunes of The Beatles and Chopin, held at the Aliw Theater, CCP Complex.

The first chapter of the show opened with classical vignettes featuring “Les Sylphides” also known as “Chopiniana” in Russia, a romantic white ballet that depicts a lone danseur (The Poet) surrounded by his muses—white-clad sylphs or air spirits dancing in the moonlight. While there is no plot, its lingering music by Frederic Chopin and lyrical choreography by Michael Fokine evoke the illusion of ethereal weightlessness which characterized the romantic era of ballet where technique is the focal point, especially the intricate pointe work of ballerinas. Other classical vignettes included Pas De Action and Diane et Acteon.
